tiny laundry rooms for inspiration

We actually got inside the house yesterday. The workmen were off having lunch so we had a good wander inside (my first, eek).
As happens some rooms were bigger than we imagined, and some were smaller. To add to this we thought the back of the house would be about 1.2m off the ground. But with the fall away the back left corner is now 2.4 high. So we get a completely different perspective on the rooms, and a space for the car, trailer and ride-on.

The room we had always imagined as the laundry (Floor plan ) has beautiful views and no floor. Both these things make this rooms purpose change in our minds. One, because to replace the flooring won't be cheap and two, perhaps someone should enjoy the view as a bedroom.

So I tried to decide whether I could live with an external laundry downstairs, with only external stairs to access. Not ideal!! Especially on acreage witht he red clay dirt, I wash A LOT!! Floor plan

So perhaps I could steal a bit of sunroom off the bathroom (1.2m x 2.2m) and make a tenny tiny laundry until we find the funds to start building in downstairs, probably when the kids leave home, 'snort'.

So here are a few of my teeny tiny laundry inspirations

What would you do, keep a large utility laundry room, or make a bedroom with a view?? We are still trying to decide.

  1. Love them! My current laundry area is so tiny this is inspiration.I plan to order a really cute printed ironing board cover from an etsy to bring color and try to have a matching cloth bag for storage of smaller items like keys dog leashes etc.

  2. I think I would definitely go with the bedroom with a view. We have a teeny tiny laundry for a family of seven and we have made it work well :)
I love your inpiration images...just beautiful.

  3. Hmm this one is a little tricky. Having had just a laundry in a cupboard for the last 8 years it is definitely do-able as long as you have space for a hamper with in it. We also have our ironing board elsewhere but I guess a fold down one would work if you want it all in one space.
On the flipside, if it is a kid getting the bedroom, are they going to appreciate the view? If it was a master bed I would say forfeit the laundry but for a kids room not so sure, especially as you have alot of washing and red dirt.
My only other thought would be keep the bedroom with a view and put the laundry in a cupboard at the end of your playroom. It will be a chaotic space anyway so a cupboard laundry across the end wall that you can open or tuck away could work quite well. Plus the kids are more likely to hang out in there if you are in there too doing washing or ironing. Hope this helps, Mel:)

  4. Bedroom with a view. I have a make-shift laundry under my house until we to can afford to build in. It's not that bad. One day we will both have our dream laundries - it will be worth the wait. Ange

  5. Thanks guys the bedroom won! But I will continue to dream of huge laundry utility room for quite a while. The 4 bedroom 2 bathroom thing was worth too much in a mortgage way so there you are!

  6. I'm glad the bedroom won. I sacraficed a sunny laundry for a bigger kitchen. The laundry is now in a cupboard near the back entrance hall. It's squeezy for doing the washing up, but I just couldn't bear all that sunshine going to waste on the whitegoods!

I love your adventure, and I'm just a teeny bit envious!
